Buxton's Latin name of Aqvae Arnemetiae has an alphanumeric conversion of 1-9 as the ordered list of letters (used once only). Marking has been strict at the approach to SS8c being orange (not red!) to yellow at MR 045729 and also with, what we have defined as the shortest route, W/O/R in GS 0572. A bit of a hard slog but the majority came up with the correct solution of spot heights. A few seeds of doubt over SH112 in GS 1543 but our ruling is that it is situated on the junction and therefore the route through Cackle Hill is what we were looking for.

MTC 23 - B5035/GL21 Depart E
TC 24 - X-roads/GL46

Either under Electric Transmission Lines or up Gradient Arrows before crossing the quoted grid line.

Read the instructions carefully we advise - but there you go gleefully heading north out of MTC 23!!! Some complied with this and yet still passed Newhouse Fm rather than Winn Fm.

The biggest cause for clarification was the white at MR 241 507, sorry - it's a path at this point and is therefore not on route. It was necessary to travel alongside Carsington Water before turning west to SH 166. Apart from this most routes were accurate. The trap that didn't catch as many as expected was the need to continue the crossing grid line sequence ensuring arrival at TC 24 from the SSE - but a small number did fall for it!.

MTC 26 - MR 316415
TC 27 - Only junction in GS 3741

In theory, quite a straightforward description of the route intended. In practice, there was plenty of room for error! The most common error was using the triangle on GL41 (top of GS 3640) which then lead to not taking the southern white loop at 'Works' in the same GS. It was shorter to go straight along the B6179, SO passed the first white and TL at the second. Another common error was missing the white loop at Hazelwood (GS 3245), but there were other variations as well.

One or two quizzical requests for the meaning of I.P.A.; International Phonetic Association or Alphabet. The accepted format for messages meant passing through the first letter of each word in the given order and, of course, a new line was started each time a capital letter was used! The naughty twist gave two route possibilities from MTC 29, the longer option going via Toadhole Furnace and South Wingfield but the correct one heading north from the Control, left onto B5035 and alongside the railway to return onto the B6013.

Alot of the errors concerned this deviation but alot also passed 'P' (if you'll pardon the expression!) in GS 3757 instead of using the white loop.

Needless to say a few were mift because we used an idea that meant a bit of research was necessary for those Roadbook patrons. Whilst not a new idea, those that knew the solution probably have stacks of maps with covers lurking away in cupboards just waiting to be called in action! For the uninitiated, the list related to the OS Landranger map series where alignment would provide a map number - thence pass through the blue grid numbers in the given sequence.

The consistant trap was not using the slightly shorter route through Red House Fm white (GS 3460).

Not so much churches but crosses! Whilst quoting the grid squares the sequence was per the legend with the odd one out being 'Antiquities: Non-Roman'. Most consistant fault used the Eastwood Grange crossing of GL 36 instead of the shorter one south of it.
