The report and final placings in the 1996/1997 Championship. Time for me to write another round-up with the publication of the CULTIVATOR's results. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all those competitors that won awards on the various rounds during the campaign and especially the individual outright winners. It was very encouraging to see that three of the four did so for the first time - David Goode, Mike Gardner and Don Clarke. Martin Rea, who is so used to winning events and this championship over the years completed the quartet. All of which leads me to announce that Colin Hensman has pulled off the main prize and become our 1996/97 Champion. Three years have elapsed since Colin first won this accolade and his consistency has placed him in the top ten every year since 1990. William Lynch takes the Championship runner-up slot consolidating his first top ten placing last year and Glynn Hayward marks his best ever season with third place. Martin Rea's fourth position maintains his very impressive record of always finishing in the top five since the conception of the Championship. First time "top-tenners" are Peter Robertson (5th), Mitch Fielding (6th), Stuart Lawrie (7th) and David Goode (10th). Ralph Sanders equalled his previous best with eighth and "Crow" in ninth place dropped a little from last year's fourth. The Loyalty Awards go to Mike Gardner, Maurice Pinner and John Evans. Mike collecting a freee entry on each of the 1997/98 rounds with Maurice and John each obtaining one 1997/98 free entry of their choice. Whilst the overall entry levels for this campaign dropped from 384 to 350, the number of competitors actually figuring in the final Championship table increased by 1! Let's hope we all hear from you next time around - may the plot be with you. Geoff White
Ties were resolved in favour of the contender with the number of lowest scores, then next lowest and so on (including any that are ignored in the final analysis) in accordance with the Championship Regulations. * Denotes Loyalty Award Contenders. (Bracketed numbers are worst scores dropped) |
