The report and final placings in the 1997/1998 Championship

Twilight time in this season's Championship. Five of last season's top ten have slipped away, whilst three find themselves in the top 10 for the first time - Ian James, Ewan Hopes and Alan Croucher, with two more returning to top 10 places.

This analysis leads us to congratulate Colin Hensman on taking his second consecutive Championship title and his third overall.

Martin Rea's usual consistency has helped him to second in the Championship, his best place since 93/94 and David Goode has achieved his best ever placing with third.

A tie break was necessary to split David Goode from Ralph Sanders in fourth with Ian James heading the newcomers at fifth. Sixth goes to Dave Bell followed by Peter Robertson, Ted Manketlow, Ewan Hopes and finally Alan Croucher rounding off the top ten.

Don Clarke collects the main Loyalty Award with runner-up positions going to Peter Lear and Doug Kingsley.

Entry levels overall have once again fallen quite heavily - borne out by the fact that only 44 people appear in the final table. Nevertheless, at the time of writing this, it looks as if each of the individual events will run in 98/99 and if that happens, then the Championship might just as well follow suit.
