Internet Table-Top Rally Championship 2003
Round 4 - Rally Round Rally
Results Summary
I suppose, as expected. the number of active competitors submitting answers was down to 22 from the first event peak of 48. Not that the rally Round was any harder than before, rather I suspect enthusiasm had waned and Winter had depressed.

You clearly didn't take to Route Cards 10, 4 and 6 in that order, but you will really kick yourselves when you see the (simple) solutions.

The results won't be final until November 16, 2003. You have until then to examine the scores and solutions, and bring to my attention any inconsistencies or errors that you believe have a material bearing on the event positions.

Notwithstanding the above, many congratulations to Steve Barber who has improved steadily over the year and emerges as the fourth different event winner. Another perfect result for me with Steve being the only competitor with a maximum score of 100 points. Mike Biss was ever consistent and was just nudged into second place and Francis Tindall was a close third. Well done.

Championship Results Summary

Several competitors that have hung in there for all four events have seen a steady improvement in their results. Practice does make perfect and I hope the detailed solutions have helped the newbies get inside my mind and understand how accurate you must be with route checking. Most notable have been Steve Barber, Robert Owen and Shane Glynn, who will no doubt be in contention for Championship honours in the future,

The close battle for the championship going into the Rally Round never fully materialised. Mike Biss's consistency won through despite not winning any of the individual rounds and I am pleased to crown him Champion for 2003. Not only is Mike one of the leading road rally drivers in the UK, but has now proved that he can mix it with the best map plotters too.

Championship runner-up is Peter Smith - another steady performer without an event win. David Bell (winner of the Cloverleaf) took the final podium position despite not making an appearance on the Rally Round.

Completing the positional award winners were Steve Barber (winner of the Rally Round), Ian Buxton (winner of the Breckland) and Francis Tindall.

Mitch (Michelle) Fielding captured the Best Lady prize.
I have awarded the special prize to Shane Glynn, who not only had to familiarise himself with Ordnance Survey maps and our funny English ways, but did so from a precarious situation in Baghdad. Congratulations.

Championship positions will be confirmed after the query period for the Rally Round results.

Championship 2004? Probably. I'll be sending out a short questionnaire soon, asking for your feedback about 2003.
