Route Card 10 - Slot Machine

Plotting limits: PDF Map

Part 1 (Masters, Experts and Novices)

Start at 20131100.

Continue via 18201278   20201385   18751410   19301660   18331735   19501764   18701846   17201740

Finish at last plot.

RC1) Some were caught out by going through Tandem and missing the shorter route via Cowmes. Passing through the word Gawthorpe, the angle of the road minutely dictated the correct order to be e,p but p,e was also allowed due to the closeness. However, with Cowmes, the order was without doubt s,m,w. Then at Kirkheaton, again t,a was technically correct but a close call so a,t also accepted.
A note for next time on the format of this type of answer: e,p,s,m,w,t,a is correct but ep,s,mw,ta is not, each letter must be separately delimited by a comma.
RC3) I judged there to be two telephones but the one near Storthes Hall was a very close call and some commented that they judged it to be just out of range so answers of 1 or 2 were allowed.

Part 2 (Masters Only)

Continue via (in sequence when decoded):

17861358   16691490   16531373   14901530   13861595   16381341   14321247   16651231

Finish at last plot.

Clue: All plots are at junctions. One of the map references is 14591241

A tricky puzzle to solve? The idea was you listed the coded references in sequence in a grid, then looked for the clue reference in a word-search manner

1 7 8 6 1 3 5 8
1 6 6 9 1 4 9 0
1 6 5 3 1 3 7 3
1 4 9 0 1 5 3 0
1 3 8 6 1 5 9 5
1 6 3 8 1 3 4 1
1 4 3 2 1 2 4 7
1 6 6 5 1 2 3 1

then roll the slot-machine spindles one by one to get this clue reference in a horizontal line. So the second spindle (or column) need to roll down one place, the third by two, the fourth by three and so on. The result being

1 6 3 8 1 5 7 0
1 7 6 2 1 5 3 3
1 6 8 5 1 3 9 0
1 6 6 6 1 2 4 5
1 4 5 9 1 2 4 1
1 3 9 3 1 3 3 7
1 6 8 0 1 4 5 1
1 4 3 6 1 3 9 8

to be plotted in this listed sequence.
RC7) The shortest route through 1715 was via the white which meant one less gradient than the yellow route.
RC9) This same shortest route also introduced the first W>Y.
