Route Card 11 - Avoidance
Plotting limits: PDF Map
You must use the illustrated features once only.
Example 1: if the letter "b" on a yellow road is illustrated, your route
must pass through this feature once, you must not pass through another
letter "b", but you may pass through other letters.
Example 2: if a cross on a yellow road is illustrated, your route must
pass along a road where any cross breaks the edge of the road, but you
must not pass through any other crosses.
Part 1 (Masters, Experts and Novices)
Start at SH223 in 3709. Using the Western instructions,
take the shortest route in the sequence shown.
Finish at next junction.
Ok - this was a very tricky one,
especially in part2, and many apologies for the error some of you raised
in part1, that there was no 'a' on a plain white background.
Colour was meaningful, so 'o' on a green road was not the same as 'o' on a
yellow etc.
RC5) The shortest route through the 's' and to the next junction was to go
S of the 's' then Nwards into 3317. The route N of the 's' then Swards
into 3416 is longer.

Part 2 (Masters Only)
Continue via the remaining out of sequence features.
Finish at next junction.
I'm open-minded about shorter
routes but I think mine is fairly direct, considering the features to be
found and avoided.
In my solution, it helped if you located the 'A' on yellow first in 2810
and saw that it was right next to a '+'. That meant you had to avoid all
other yellow '+' on the way, no matter what kind of church they were
attached to. You couldn't avoid the 'A' and the '+' together as you had to
end at the next junction, after your last feature.
RC9) The spot for SH55 was debatable so answers with and without it were
accepted.
