Part 1 involved finding the spot heights listed and, using them in the order
given, plotting the shortest route from first to last.
Part 2 had two challenges. First, figuring out how the spot heights were
represented. Not too difficult for the Masters as I'm sure you've come across this interpretation before. The digits of each spot height were simply added
together to give a single number. Then, of course, you also had to work out the
correct order of use to give the shortest route. The correct sequence was 117
172 113 163 119 148 286 206 113 101 94.
A couple of you might kick yourselves for putting in the correct sequence of
letters, but not in the right format - a lesson to be noted. To try to help, I
posted a note on the forum as soon as I noticed this.
RC3 - There was some debate about the junction in 6939, is it YYWW or YYW? So
answers of 7 or 8 were accepted as correct.
RC6 - You had to keep your focus to spot all of the YYW junctions, so I've marked
them on the solution map. Some debate about the church YYW and those in 6137 led to one additional answer being accepted.
RC9 - Some were unsure about whether to count the T within 200m of TC2 in both
RC1 and RC9. TC1 to TC3 is one route, punctuated by a time control TC2. A
feature must only be counted once, so having counted it in RC1, it was not
allowed again in RC9.
