Route Card Commentary
|
Part 1 was finding the shortest route between points, given in sequence, and
expressed as grid references. Two places on the route needed your full
attention: first, the shortest route from point 5 to 6 to 7 was north up through
the w of Harrowbarrow then back south on the yellow to the immediate left of
Norris Green (some of you took the longer route north up through the r of
Harrowbarrow); second, you could not get across the railway line on the white
NTR in 4269.
The easiest way to solve part 2 was to google Arecibo message which took you
to here
where there was an explanation of the Arecibo numbers. They didn't give a code
for zero so I used my own interpretation for that as just the least significant
digit marker. The solution map has been amended due to a much shorter route through Callington, pointed out by Andy Gibson. Also David Bell came up with an alternative route (see the forum for full details) which was within 1% of my final shorter route adjustment. This lead to a second set of answers being accepted and gained him the route card win.
There was some lively debate about a junction that I ruled to be a crossroads and there will be a Regs update as a result.
RC3 - Useful for me as I could see the different routes chosen but with the
inevitable discussion of whether or not letters qualified, combinations were
allowed with and without the t in Settlement and with or without the v of
Cleave etc.
Route Card winner: David Bell
