Route Card 12 - Competitors' Comments

One or two qualifications:RC2 includes Y bridge (half a symbol?) in 3429. RC4 three alternatives depending on route through 3825 and 3925 a) Y dual carriageway in 3925 - S K I n n, b) Y dual carriageway in 3925 including x of windpump (GL39) - S K x I n n, c) Y not dual carriageway in 3925 - S K n n, all alternatives assume TC13(in) junction not included in route card array. RC8 not much in it between 3223 and 3423. RC10 assume cross railway includes O(2) U(4) and LC(2). [First to answerDave Bell

Another bit of a guess for most of it...... I think I need more help perhaps a description or clue as to what the section navigation is may help me..Either that or I'll stick with the stage rallies and easy plot road rallies!!!   Steve Waggett

Hmmm.. I'd pretty much resigned myself to not getting this one, but then, inspiration! I think a lot of people won't get this one, so don't be too downhearted if there aren't many replies (unless this has been used before in other events). Fun once you've spotted it.  I'm assuming you've made a mistake between lines 12 and 13, since there is no way to get from the white onto the yellow (and I can't find any roads that change from white to yellow around there). I've assumed that there should be an extra 0100000000000000 line, giving the junction at 351294. [No mistake, because the North East end of the Yellow is NTR - so it's not a junction!] Also, I'm assuming you've counted the white obscured by the 44 in 3925 as connected, otherwise I can't find a white to white in that square. I would argue that it isn't connected, but it's hard to tell.... [Counted and connected via rule 9] My route joins the red at the 'n' and goes through the 44, so you don't pass through the I of Inn. I'm pretty sure this is the shortest route....[Yes, this was the trickiest bit] Ambiguities: 4) Not really ambiguous, but there is an 'r' very near the route at 354278 [it doesn't break the road though] and I assume you don't want the '4' in 3925 as it's not a letter [correct] (i.e. SKrnn4) 8) I make 27 and 28 both crossed 8 times. [27 or 28 as an answer is acceptable] I've put down 27, since you could argue that 28 isn't crossed 3 times around 315. 9) I think 3223, but 3423 is VERY close....10) I assume you want both LCs (2) and bridges (6) [10/10]   Jeremy Rodgers

Easy route card once you decided that each line referred to a GS. Good set of route check questions.  Ted Manktelow

Absolutely no clue with this one. What is it? Had all sorts of thoughts but none seemed near the mark, so I've just made up a route that leaves you space to do the future route cards, and which took in about 31 grid squares (just in case...) and put the answers from that. The only pattern I could see was that the 3rd digit in each group of 4 and the 3rd group of 4 were always zero; what this has to do with anything I don't know. Was there a clue in the question?  Ian Buxton

Well it was enjoyable while it lasted. Haven't got a clue. Look forward to seeing the solution. At least you'll have a different surname to play with. P.S  Might as well go on holiday for the next 8 Weeks.  Ewan Hopes

Wasn't sure about this one at all.  I'm guessing that each line represents a grid square and the numbers represent junctions in the square - however, I can't figure out how to relate the positions on the line to the direction at the junction.  So all I did was create a route which linked together squares with the right number of junctions - hopefully some of it will be right.  Mark Fearon

Congratulations...You beat me  Pete James

Now let's have an easy one. No.13 is unlucky enough on its own!  Don Clarke

Glug!  Carol Moulton
