Plotting Boundaries: (E 289600, N 725800) to (E 301020, N 717720)

Part 1 (Masters, Experts and Novices)

The Jog1 file below is an actual distance / time schedule from the 2009 Land's End to John O'Groats Reliability Trial.
Competitors had to use these instructions to plot the correct route, then follow it at the speeds indicated, to pass each feature at the correct time. At some of the features they would find secret timing points, to check they were adhering to the schedule. You don't have to worry about the timing, but you should use the landmarks and distances to plot your route from TC1 (Regularity Start) at 0036 1785 to TC2 at the last instruction.
Some of the landmarks will be of no use as not all roadside features are marked on the map, some of the notes at the top of the first page relate only to timing so can also be ignored.
Oh, one other thing - you have to work out for yourself which way to turn at the junctions, just like the LEJOG competitors did.
My thanks to Peter Nedin and the Historic Endurance Rallying Organisation for allowing me to use this section.

Part 2 (Masters Only)

Continue using the Jog2 file below. Now the timing IS important, because it's all you get.
This time the landmarks are all junctions. Your average speed changes when you change road colour, but you do use the same speed on each use of a colour. Of course you have to work out the speeds for yourselves. TC3 at the last instruction.

Route Card Commentary
Part 1
There was an advantage here for those (mainly masters) who have competed on regularity rallies of any kind, but I don't think anyone here had actually competed on the 2009 LEJOG.
The landmarks are listed from driving along the route, not from the map, hence farm entrances, tracks, etc are listed, even though they are NTR's in our 'table top' world.

Part 2
Perhaps this was a bit too viscious for the first card, but it let you know what was in store for the rest of the event! Lots of calculation and trial and error required initially to establish the speeds, which were 20 mph (w), 25 mph (y) and 30 mph (g) - actually the same 3 speeds used in pt 1. I was very tempted to set the whites at 60 mph... To give some assistance, the Give Ways were where you went onto a higher class of road, the '?'s were where you changed colour, but with no choice of route.

RC2/4 - The junction at 94812060 could be a WYY, so two distinct pairs of solutions were allowed. RC5 - As mentioned on the forum, I allowed 1+1 as a solution as the required format is not actually specified in the regs.
