I can only apologise for the delay in resolving the last queries and finalising the results. I am sorry if it has detracted from your enjoyment of the Championship, hopefully it won't put anyone off having a go next time.

Having set a round in each of the last two championships I won't be offering to organise one next time. I hope someone else will step up and have a go It is incredibly time consuming but some of the comments received from you the competitors make it worth while.

My thanks (and apologies again) to Crow for all his hard work putting it altogether and for putting up with my demands and overdue submissions. Also thanks to Gavin and Chris for setting the other two rounds in 2012.

Many thanks to everyone who attempted this year's final round. I think most of the route cards were about the right level, however cards 11 and 12 were perhaps a little too challenging and certainly time-consuming, which meant that most people were unable to complete them before the deadline. I have added quite detailed commentaries for most of the route cards, some of which will only serve to confirm some opinions about my sanity...

Thanks to everyone (and particularly Crow) for your patience both with the delayed event and the results. Thanks also to anyone who took the time to add comments after their submissions or post feedback on the forum - the good ones make it worth all the hard work putting the events on, the bad ones we can hopefully take as constructive criticism and improve for next time.

My thanks to Iain Tullie for organising the Thalamorph Rally. I've not had time to follow every detail of the event, but by most accounts you've all had an interesting time. It's one hell of a lot of work running an Internet TTR, so much acclaim to Iain for devoting his time to entertaining you.

Provisional Results and route solutions may take a little longer than usual to appear. I think Iain has a few adjustments to make and calculations to crunch for tie-deciding. Plus I won't be around for the next week as I will shortly be heading to Torquay to compete on the Rally of the Tests - my first real rally for over two years - so lots of nervous fluttering of wings from the "Crow". I think some of you are doing the RoT too, so come and say hello in Torquay or on route (Car 53).

Welcome to The Thalamorph Rally, the long-overdue 4th round of the 2012 Championship.

My apologies to those (if any) of you who have been on the edges of your seats since September, when the event was originally planned to start. Particular thanks to Crow for his patience.

As usual, there are 12 Route Cards, ranging from straightforward to a little more challenging as you progress through the cards. I hope I have pitched the cards at a reasonable level for all abilities, but as this is the final round of the season, I will make no apologies if you find it more difficult than the previous rounds.

Most of the routes are designed to be plotted completely with AutoP(i)lot, although care needs to be taken when plotting whites and narrow yellows as AutoP(i)lot will not necessarily take the shortest route. When using AutoP(i)lot, I would advise you to always review your route in Street View before submitting. This will help you tidy up any plots up driveways and the like, which don't show up at OS 1:50,000 level.

All but one of the Route Cards should be solved using the 1:50000 scale maps, the plotting areas are all around 13 km x 9 km as on previous rounds.

There are three 'Regularity' Route Cards which will have penalties 'to the second', similar to previous rounds. All of them will show the distance.

Additionally, Route Cards 2, 6 and 10 are 'Timed' in the true sense - the times taken on these will be added together and used as a further tie decider, should totals be equal. So these sections should be tackled 'against the clock' as we used to do before 2012. In the unlikely event that this does not resolve the tie, only then will furthest-cleanest be applied, considering all route cards in order, not just your best ten. I will be keeping track of these times manually and should any of these route cards have to be re-marked, rest assured that it will be your original time that will still count.
